Reviews

  • A complete disappointment

When I looked at the reviews, I was excited to read this book. However, I quickly realised that it wasn’t going to live up to my expectations. There were many, many plot holes throughout the book and the ending was so rushed, it was almost comical. The ending was also entirely unrealistic and I couldn’t believe that was what it was leading up to the whole time. I doubt I’ll read anything else by T.M Logan.

    It was so bad.
  • Proper weird ending

Loved it from the start till the last chapter, loved the characters and the bleakness of it at times. But the ending it was crazy it just flipped two characters personalities in a completely different direction and turned them into two different people. It was a twist, a very surprising twist but it almost made the rest of the book pointless in a way.

I saw the high review scoring and all the awards this book had won so was really excited - but this book failed all expectations. At times it was like this book was written by a child - bizarre and unrealistic plots, limited detail and I won’t even comment on the rushed ending. I agree with another review I read - it’s like a kid realising they had 10 minutes left of their English exam paper No questions were even addressed, let alone answered.
  • Worse than Johnathan Creek

I thought the TV show Johnathan Creek was laughable for its outrageously, unbelievable ‘reveals’, but this books ending not only manages to be as ludicrous as an episode of JC, but also wins the prize for being exceptionally dull too... not sure if the author, whom I appreciate is new to this, knows the basic rules of ‘mystery’ writing, but one must give the reader small breadcrumbs along the way, in order for them to attempt to solve the mystery themselves or at very least, think back to see how it all pieced together - this guy simply got to the end and just plucked the first random nonsensical idea which came into his head?! I’m still unclear, with that amount of imagination, he still managed to write such a boring book, I wanted to skip forward from about chapter 10 to the end, it was a snooze fest... I’m not sure if it was the narrator’s voices, which were cringeworthy, which added to the dullness, or if it was purely down to the writing ? What I do know is, this is not a ‘psychological thriller’, doesn’t compare to some of the greats out there, and I totally wasted £13 - why IS audio so much more expensive than paper?! Especially when the reader is so unsuitable for the task.... Avoid if you like to use your brain and play detective!

I really enjoyed this book and thought it was well developed. However, come the final chapters, it felt rushed and the subsequent resulting narrative mirrored that of someone frantically trying to finish their GCSE English exam paper. It was just poorly concluded, lose ends not tied together, and overall a poor ending. It’s a shame because the majority of the book was at a great pace.

I could not stop reading this, all the time saying that the "hero" was a bit of a plonker! I personally do not trust all the new digital era so I can fully understand how this plot could be. But we do live in this era so I guess the lesson has to be to be careful and aware. NEVER WRITE OR PHOTOGRAPH ANYTHING YOU WOULD NOT SHOW YOUR PARENTS. I try to install that nugget into my son!!!
